Exposure During Pregnancy to Common Household Chemicals Associated with Substantial Drop in Child IQ. Children exposed during pregnancy to elevated levels of two common chemicals found in the home—di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP) and di-isobutyl phthalate (DiBP)—had an IQ score, on average, more than six points lower than children exposed at lower levels, according to researchers at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

A behind-the-scenes tour of the technology at Husky Stadium. Some of the renovations made to the University of Washington’s new Husky Stadium in Seattle are easily noticeable. There is no longer a track separating the first row of fans from the field. There are many, many more concession stands and bathrooms. And those rickety wooden bleachers have finally been replaced.

Curiosity rover finds organics on Mars.           Not life, but its chemical building blocks, have been detected on Mars and University of Michigan engineers and planetary scientists played a role in the discovery. This week, NASA reported that the Curiosity rover found organic molecules—spike of methane in the planet's atmosphere and carbon in Martian rock. Organic molecules are carbon- and often hydrogen-based compounds that make up living things. But they're also found elsewhere.

Cornell engineers join $2M DARPA Robotics Challenge. Cornell engineers are adding their expertise in robot autonomy to the DARPA Robotics Challenge(DRC), a multi-year, international prize competition sponsored by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Military veterans losing ground on jobs as disability enrollment increases, Stanford research shows. Research by Stanford economist Mark Duggan shows that the significant rise in disability coverage for veterans may be hurting them in making employment gains. He suggests possible reforms, such as time limits for applying, more frequent medical reviews and building job skills among veterans.

Trapping light with a twister New understanding of how to halt photons could lead to miniature particle accelerators, improved data transmission. David L. Chandler | MIT News Office Researchers at MIT who succeeded last year in creating a material that could trap light and stop it in its tracks have now developed a more fundamental understanding of the process. The new work — which could help explain some basic physical mechanisms — reveals that this behavior is connected to a wide range of other seemingly unrelated phenomena.

Harvard to Participate in 2015 Diamond Head Classic HONOLULU, Hawai'i -  The field is set for the 2015 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The field for the seventh annual event – to be played Dec. 22, 23 & 25, 2015 – includes Auburn, BYU, Harvard, New Mexico, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Washington State and tournament host school Hawai'i.
