North Korea issues new threat to U.S. bases

North Korea on Tuesday served up its latest round of threats against the United States, saying it plans to place military units tasked with targeting U.S. bases under combat ready status. The Supreme Command of the North Korean military said it "will put on the highest alert all the field artillery units including strategic rocket units and long-range artillery units, which are assigned to strike bases of the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops in the U.S. mainland and on Hawaii and Guam and other operational zone in the Pacific, as well as all the enemy targets in South Korea and its vicinity." Remaining 11 bodies repatriated

A C130 military aircraft landed in Pretoria in the early hours of Friday morning containing the bodies of the remaining victims of the Nigeria tragedy. “The mortal remains of the outstanding 11 compatriots who perished on 12 September 2014 when the SCOAN [Synagogue Church of All Nations] guesthouse collapsed in Nigeria are all back,” Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe said shortly after the aircraft landed at Waterkloof Air Force Base.  Click image to read more.

First all-female mosque opens in Los Angeles

The first women-only mosque in the United States opened its doors in Los Angeles on Friday with an inaugural jummah, or prayer, by Edina Lekovic of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. The mosque is housed in a century-old multifaith worship space near downtown. South Africa to host next African Union summit

Mac Maharaj South Africa will host the 25th African Union (AU) summit in Johannesburg in mid-2015, the presidency said on Sunday. President   Jacob Zuma   led the South African delegation at the summit, where Zimbabwe was elected chair of the AU for the year, presidential spokesperson   Mac Maharaj   said in a statement   Zimbabwe would have the double responsibility of leading both the continent and the sub-region as chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Among the issues discussed at the summit were the escalation in terrorism in parts of Africa and the AU’s co-ordinate response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
