Apple Selects Student for Distinguished Educators Class of 2015

Katharine Hale.
George Mason University's College of Education and Human Development (CEHD)- Congratulations to Katharine Hale for her selection to the prestigious Apple Distinguished Educators Class of 2015.
Ms. Hale, a fifth grade teacher at Abingdon Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia, is graduating in May with a master's degree from the Integration of Online Learning in Schools program, part of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University. Her primary professors are Priscilla Norton and Dawn Hathaway in the Learning Technologies division.

The Apple Distinguished Educators Program  began in 1994, when Apple recognized K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Today it has grown into a worldwide community of over 2,000 visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things in and out of the classroom.
At her elementary school, Ms. Hale piloted a 1:1 iPad classroom and continues to teach in a personalized device environment. She works with a diverse group of students each year including second language learners and students of low-income families. As a teacher, she values the power of the workshop model in both literacy and math settings.

As part of being named a Distinguished Educator, Ms. Hale will advise Apple on integrating technology into learning environments, and will also be given a platform to share her expertise with other educators and policy makers.
