Show us your mortarboard

The decorating of the mortarboard is a tradition for Tulane University students who wish to stand out among the sea of black hats seated on the floor of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome during the annual commencement ceremony.
Over the years, the boards designed by Tulane graduates have ranged from having a touch of glitter to being full works of art created with several hours of labor.
Some give praise to parents: “Thanks mom and dad.”
Some show off newly acquired French language skills and local joie de vivre: “Laissez les bon temps roulez.”
While others give shout outs to the sororities and fraternities the student leaves behind.
As commencement approaches on Saturday, May 16, we are seeking graduates who are in the process of designing their “tops” to share the process with our readers.

Please send an email with a photo of your completed mortarboard, a brief description of your art, your name and major no later than Friday, May 8. Those selected will be featured in New Wave.
