Doctors Perform First-Ever Skull and Scalp Transplant

Texas doctors have completed the world's first partial skull and scalp transplant to help a man with a large head wound from cancer treatment.
Houston Methodist Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center doctors performed the operation on Jim Boysen May 22 at Houston Methodist.

Boysen, 55, also got a new kidney and pancreas along with the scalp and skull grafts.
Dr. Nina Radcliff, practicing physician and anesthesiologist, explained on "America's News Headquarters" that the operation took 15 hours and almost 50 people, including a dozen doctors.
Boysen was given a 10-by-10-inch skull graft piece by piece and a 15-inch-wide scalp graft starting above his forehead.
"This is one of the reasons I love being a physician," Radcliff said. "It's exciting every single day."
"This is the benefit of medical miracles and phenomena."
